Start/Finish Change

Start/Finish is now at the US Bicycling Hall of Fame at the corner of Third & A Streets, in Central Park. Because the ride coincides with the Davis Farmer's Market during the morning hours, parking in the area will be at a premium. There will be very limited reserved parking for SAG vehicles for pick up/drop off only. The nearest readily available parking during market hours is likely to be the City Hall parking lot (where we hold the Thursday pre-meeting), about two blocks away. Volunteers who normally pick up SAG supplies/radio equipment on the morning of the event are strongly encouraged to pick up at the Thursday meeting instead, if at all possible. With prior arrangement materials can be available at set up on Friday around 1700-1800.

Special Instructions for Incoming SAGS at S/F

Enter the area at the intersection of D and 4th streets. Drive west on 4th Street to the intersection of C and 4th. Turn left past the barricades into the parking area. Third Street will be blocked off between B and C. C may be blocked off between 5th and 4th. This is the best way to avoid frustration trying to get into the parking area.

Course & Rest Stop Changes

Outbound from Davis: The route will head south from Start/Finish, following Old Davis Road into Solano County, crossing I-80 at Pedrick Road, then heading to Stevenson Bridge Road and Putah Creek Road, and finally re-joining the traditional course in the Winters area. Rest Stop 1 will be located in Winters.

Lake Berryessa Area:
The Berryessa-Knoxville re-routing and water stop has been cancelled. The route will follow the usual course along State Route 128 and Chiles-Pope Valley Road.
The course will leave State Route 128 at Berryessa-Knoxville Road (Turtle Rock). The course will follow Berryessa-Knoxville Road to Pope Canyon Road, and then follow Pope Canyon Road to Pope Valley, where the traditional route will resume. There will be a water stop at the corner of Berryessa Knoxville Road and Pope Canyon Road.

Middletown Area: The course change to the new (old) route along Big Canyon Road between Middletown and Siegler Canyon Road continues this year. Several miles of Big Canyon Road are well-packed dirt/gravel (smoother than some paved parts of the course!). SAG and Patrol vehicles working this part of the course are asked to drive carefully to avoid raising dust.

Esparto Area: The course will deviate from the traditional route in the Esparto area to accomodate the new location of Rest Stop 9 at the Esparto Middle School on County Road 21A.

NorCal AIDS Cycle route overlap

The NorCal AIDS Cycle route will coincide with the DC route in Capay Valley area. SAGs are advised that there will be quite a few riders on the Hwy 16 part of the course that will be in another organized ride.

Friday Set Up

Net Control set up at the Bicycle Hall of Fame will be on Friday March 15 at 1700hrs. All help appreciated. Leftover SAG materials (first aid, sag boxes, pumps) and t-shirt bags w/maps and other docs will be available for pickup

Pre Ride Meeting

Thursday May 14 at 1900 hrs.
The pre-ride meeting will be held at the Parking Lot behind Davis City Hall, at the corner of Russell Blvd. and B Streets. Directions to City Hall can be found HERE. We will be meeting at the west end of the parking lot, closest to A Street.

Talk-in on 144.430 simplex. SAG boxes, info packets (shirts, maps, freq plan), 900 radios, and APRS trackers should be available. Any op not able to make it can make other arrangements or pick up their stuff at Net Control on event day.

Because of the parking and access challenges on the morning of the event, if at all possible, please attend the Thursday meeting to pick up your supplies.

Radio Plan

The radio plan will be similar to last year's, with 2m and 900 MHz being used. In addition, when the airborne repeater/digipeater is flying, a 440 MHz repeater linked to the 900 MHz repeater will be available. The 440 MHz repeater will provide handheld level coverage.

Net Control will be geared towards having enough ops to handle simultaneously 2-4 channels, minimizing the time needed for field units to get a response.

APRS

APRS will be used again this year. A separate packet frequency with special event digipeaters located on the course and in the plane will be used. We do not use the national 144.390 frequency due to coverage and congestion issues. Net Control will be equipped to track APRS equipped units. Yaesu location beacons are not displayed on our ancient APRS+SA program but net control will try to keep track on aprs.fi for any Yaesu beacons (VX8, FT350, etc.)
